ACAP Project
Since 2014, the Australian Centre for Advanced Photovoltaics (ACAP) has supported many world-first achievements in the area of photovoltaics including organic and perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Led by the University of New South Wales, founding ACAP partners include the Australian National University, CSIRO Manufacturing, University of Queensland, University of Melbourne and Monash University.
As one of the lead nodes, the Printable PV team have taken thin-film PSC technology from the laboratory and developed cost-effective roll-to-roll printing and coating techniques that have the potential for large-scale manufacturing in Australia.
With the consortium funding extended for another 8 years, ACAP is set to continue to deliver on the mission out to 2030, targeting ultra-low-cost solar technologies that are critical to enable a net zero emissions future.
Using the ACAP co-funded pilot printing facility completed in early 2024, The Printable PV team aims to demonstrate roll-to-roll photovoltaics production at scale, showing industry that this technology is on the cusp of commercialisation.
ACAP also supports international research exchange and promotion of Australian research globally. This enables the team to host international undergraduate and postgraduate students, and to provide facility access to international researchers and the other ACAP nodes.
