The Information and Data Centre (IDC) at CSIRO Oceans and Atmosphere, Australia manages most of the Oceans and Atmosphere vessel-collected (ship) data collected over the past 30 years, as well as such related datasets as those collected with moored instrument arrays (moorings) in the Australasian region – see the Overview tab of the Data Trawler for the spatial coverage of data currently held.
The IDC also develops and and maintains a range of data management systems and tools which include a central “Data Warehouse”, accessed via a custom Data Trawler application; Marlin the GeoNetwork data catalogue, which contains descriptions of many O&A and Marine National Facility (MNF) datasets (not just those held by the Data Centre); “CAAB” (Codes for Australian Aquatic Biota), a master species database which provides names and codes for some 44,000 marine species which occur in Australian and adjacent waters.
The IDC curates Marine National Facility datasets, collected during research voyages by the (former) RV Franklin and RV Southern Surveyor and current RV Investigator MNF research vessels. These data streams include the underway routinely acquired data suite, CTD, Hydrology (water chemistry), and ADCP data, from 1985.
