Spring 2022 Australian SKA Office update

On 13 October, the Wajarri Yamaji Aboriginal Corporation participated in the Yamaji On Country event where SKA employment opportunities were discussed. Australia’s Industry Liaison Officer, Anthony Holzwart, was on hand to present to the audience and talk about the contracts that will be awarded to Australian businesses.

An annual highlight on the astronomy calendar is the Perth Astrofest. Organised by Astronomy WA, Astrofest is a free event and caters to all ages. So, if you are in Perth on Saturday 29 October, I encourage you to come on down and visit the SKA project stand.

Internationally, progress on getting more countries to officially join SKA Observatory as full members is gaining momentum. We expect major announcements soon from France and Spain. In Germany, its government recently announced funding for a new large-scale research centre dedicated to astrophysics. This is a great sign as we expect the research centre will support Germany’s involvement in the SKA project.

Until next time – stay safe.
