Philippines Baseline Project – Plastic Free Workshop Event
Although the Palawan training was rescheduled to November, we wanted to offer our registered participants an opportunity to get involved with the project today and celebrate World Oceans Day! Our CSIRO team collaborated with Plastic Free July to run a Plastic Free Workshop on how small individual actions can drive large-scale community changes to reduce plastic pollution.
This workshop was originally to be held on our last day of training, and we were thrilled to be able to offer it to our participants virtually via Zoom. The 1.5hr interactive workshop included CSIRO giving an overview of the ‘Establishing a marine plastic litter baseline in the Philippines’ project, Rebecca sharing first-hand experience of what inspired her to start Plastic Free July and how this small community action has become a global annual event. Participants were then given opportunity to share why they wanted to get involved with the CSIRO plastic baseline project, and what changes they would like to see and make in their community to reduce plastic pollution. The last section of the workshop was a brainstorming activity where participants could provide feedback to Rebecca on this year’s Plastic Free July campaign materials for the Philippines.
