Mary MacKay

 

Mary Mackay, originally from Scotland, was a nomadic traveler, living, studying and working all over the world until she moved to Tasmania in 2016 where she put down roots. She is a behavioural economist interested in how and why people make decisions. After completing her PhD in behavioural economics at The University of Tasmania she completed her postdoctoral fellowship at CSIRO where she was working as a research scientist under the Impossible Without You scheme in the Ending Plastic Waste Research Initiative. Her research interests focused primarily on compliance behaviour in fisheries and using the same compliance framework in the marine debris domain. She has been a keen collaborator with the interdisciplinary group The Centre for Marine Socioecology. Her research interests also include knowledge exchange at the science- policy interface, gender equity in research, and early career research development in Marine Social Sciences (practical tips and tools).
