The Angus SteerSELECT genomic tool

Angus SteerSELECT is a genomic selection tool that improves the quality and consistency of beef products.

SteerSELECT enables greater precision in sorting and/or marketing of steers into lines suitable for the different paths in the beef supply chain (eg grassfed, short-fed or long-fed programs).

The tool, launched in October 2024, was developed and validated in the Australian commercial environment focused on Angus steers (87.5% Angus content or greater). This tool offers the opportunity to capture value throughout the beef supply chain by improving the quality and consistency of beef products.

This tool provides genetic predictions for nine traits related to growth, feedlot performance, carcase and resilience (ImmuneDEX). In addition, estimated genomic breed composition (Angus BreedCHECK) is also reported with an overall selection index and a simplified start ranking.
