Apps to explore livestock systems in Africa and Asia

January 15th, 2018

The LiveGAPS project identifies pathways to sustainably maximise yield in livestock systems. To do this we:

  1. Estimate the productivity of livestock at or close to the present time, which we term the baseline
  2. Assess interventions to increase livestock yields
  3. Develop projections of productivity and production

We want our data to be publically available and easy to explore – so we develop easy to use apps for you to investigate and visualise our work.

We have just released three apps:

An application that compares the effect of modelled interventions on multiple variables related to production (for example yield, mortality or herd size) for dairy, poultry and goat livestock systems in India and Ethiopia.

An application to explore a large range of productivity, labour, economic variables at the farm scale for livestock systems in Tanzania, Nigeria and Ethiopia. These data are derived from household surveys and census data.

An application to explore the yield distribution of livestock systems in Tanzania, Nigeria and Ethiopia.

These apps are under development – as we progress with our work we will update these apps to show information from a greater range of countries and variables. In addition, we are developing more apps to allow exploration of a range of different variables.
