High Definition X-Ray Fluorescence Microscopy
Micro-focussed X-ray fluorescence mapping provides spatially constrained, quantified, major and trace element maps of rocks and minerals to aid understanding of geological processes. Using high flux X-ray sources and proton beams, large samples can be mapped on relatively short timescales to produce high definition images of many tens of megapixels. CSIRO Mineral Resources is home to major developments in both detectors (Maia) and software (GeoPIXE™) both used at global synchrotron facilities and more recently our flagship Maia Mapper Lab µ-XRF instruments.
