Regional-scale groundwater management

We lead high-impact, multi-disciplinary assessments, and investigations to support safe and secure water supplies in Australia, South Asia and the Pacific

We use knowledge, tools and solutions to assess water security and drought resilience strategies at scales ranging from plot-scale research through to enterprise, basin and national assessments under changing land use, climate, water supply and resource development futures.

We provide science to manage health and environmental risks for managed aquifer recharge schemes, and to identify future water banking opportunities.

High impact research for safe and secure groundwater resources

Our research includes several of the world’s largest basin-scale investigations into the impacts of groundwater extraction, climate change and other factors on Australia’s groundwater and surface water resources. Key research questions include quantification of groundwater recharge, aquifer connectivity, surface and groundwater interactions, and ecosystem function.
