Food integrity

To address domestic and global challenges, Australia must remain competitive and resilient amongst a constantly changing agrifood system. Our science informs regulatory decisions and supports agrifood systems to meet integrity measures, including safety, sustainability, nutrition, ethics and more.

Our science-based food integrity research will increase food export value, prevent recalls, outbreaks and reputational risks, reduce foodborne illness burden and contribute to environmental, economic and social sustainability.

Addressing the challenge with market access

  • Maintaining and enabling market access for Australian agrifood products is threatened by shifting regulatory requirements, evolving definitions of risk, innovative technologies and products, changing environmental conditions and a push for sustainable farming practices.
  • We investigate what data, metrics and tools can help industry and government to provide evidence-based assurance systems to meet the constantly changing regulatory and market access requirements.

Creating safer and healthier agrifood and manufacturing supply chains

  • When innovations in food formulation, processes and technologies compromise on product integrity, including safety and shelf life, reputational, economic, and public health consequences arise.
  • Our research looks at how Australian food systems can effectively assess, communicate and manage risks to meet global, domestic and market drivers around safety, sustainability and security.
  • We aim to contribute to safer and healthier agrifood and manufacturing supply chains.
