Participatory network mapping

December 1st, 2020

Participatory network mapping supports Traditional Owners to think and talk about relationships and power on Country, to support Indigenous-led futures.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are often marginalized from decision-making processes that affect them and their Country. Empowering Indigenous leadership and decision-making capabilities is key to enabling achievement of their goals and aspirations for current and future generations.

Traditional Owners have been supported by CSIRO to use participatory network mapping as a new way to think and talk about relationships and types of influence agencies and groups have within  their Country. Making visual maps of community dynamics and flows (e.g. information, finances, policies), enabled Traditional Owners in the Kimberley region of Western Australia to identify and use opportunities to increase their influence, and empower their aspirations for Indigenous-led futures.
