Cyber risks and threats have a rippling effect on many facets of everyday life. Whether a citizen, the owner of a small business, or a government agency, technology is used by everybody and as such everybody is at risk. DSS understands that humans can be regarded as the weakest link in the security chain, and as such, we need to step in to mitigate the inherent threats and risk introduced by humans. DSS in collaboration with government agencies aims to make the governance, management and understanding of cybersecurity more accessible to the Australian audience. This aim is in support of the National Plan to Combat Cybercrime which focuses largely on developing and maintaining cyber security governance through its vision “a safe and secure digital environment for all Australians” and its mission “making Australia a hard target for cybercriminals”. It is clear that the Australian government sets the importance of proper cyber security governance as a high priority. Some of the key research questions we aim to address under cybersecurity governance, policy and awareness are:
