Secure and Big Data Analytics Platforms

Data61, University of Melbourne, SCS
Partners: Prof Richard Sinnot, A/Prof Udaya Parampalli, Dr Vanessa Teague, Dr Aaron Harwood

This project will focus on a range of complementary activities in the big data and security research arena. The cohort of PhD students at the University of Melbourne will focus on a range of topics including: cybersecurity; privacy demands when dealing with access to and use of sensitive data; challenges inherent with large-scale (big) data; challenges of real time, high velocity data and the requirements on the infrastructure to support real-time data analysis, as well as research challenges of intelligent management of Cloud infrastructures to cope with such big data possibilities. These activities leverage a range of ongoing efforts and projects in this area that will contextualize the work and provide a rich test bed for experiments and collaborations with data61. Example project activities include:

  1. Application of Fingerprint Authentication on Smartphones to Voter Identification
  2. A distributed tuple space modelling for big data processing
  3. A Robust and Reliable Tele-medical data Security and Authentication System using Spread Spectrum Steganography
  4. Real-time Monitoring of Traffic Status through Social Media Data Analytics on the Cloud
  5. Fault Optimized Resource Utilization in Hybrid Cloud Environments
  6. On the design of private, anonymous and trustless protocols in public blockchains
