Remote Control of Robot from Parliament House
Continuous3D features at the Tech Council of Australia Parliamentary Showcase.
In July 2024, CSIRO participated in the Tech Council of Australia Showcase at Parliament House. The Showcase was attended by over 600 people and 50 exhibitors, and speakers included Ed Husic MP, Paul Fletcher MP and Allegra Spender MP. On display at the CSIRO stand were a variety of technologies in robotics, AI, digitial twins, and… Continuous3D.
The Continuous3D Team took the opportunity to perform a live demonstration. The demo showed how an operator (here, Peter King) could control a robot from a different location and receive 3D data back almost instantaneously. With a click of a button on the laptop in Canberra, the robot in the lab in Melbourne scanned in a metal component, and sent the data back for display in Canberra. In a real world situation, this might be used to perform robotic damage assessment and repair in remote or difficult-to-access locations.
Three of our team members were onsite in Melbourne to monitor the robot in the lab throughout the day. However, the robot was able to operate essentially without intervention. In the photo you can also see some of our other metal components on display, including our steel vase made by WAAM that is being held up by CSIRO’s CEO, Doug Hilton AO.
