Trust – it’s formation, maintenance, and calibration – is an important factor in the performance of artificial intelligence systems, and especially when they are engaged in active collaboration with humans. This CINTEL FSP project draws on what we already know about trust in automation and AI, and interpersonal (or human-human) trust, to work out how trust in CINTEL develops, how it is maintained, how to repair it, if it is broken, and precisely what are the consequences of trust, or a lack of trust, in a collaborative intelligence system?
