Advanced Engineering for Autonomy
Sensing tasks are increasingly multi-modal, demanding the use of a number of sensors together. These categories of sensors are often grouped into integrated platforms which provide additional levels of control. The Advanced Engineering for Autonomy theme works to build technologies to enable and enhance autonomy on sensors connected in platforms and networks. This includes the development of platforms, systems, networks and the associated decision making to bring sensing elements together. This includes the development of autonomous systems for in-situ marine monitoring, edge-AI trainers for sensor systems and the use of Internet of Things (IoT) networks to support aged care. The theme aims to drive impact through improvements in health monitoring, environmental sensing and agriculture. The portfolio of projects within the theme have been selected to build on existing work within CSIRO while extending capabilities into emerging areas of research and are aligned to maximize synergies between research teams.
