Turning banana leaves into packaging
EGIT is working to address the escalating problem of plastic pollution in Vietnam by championing biodegradable takeaway food packaging.
Recognising the high demand for convenient and portable food options, which has led to excessive use of single-use plastic containers, bags, and utensils, EGIT has developed a sustainable alternative. Their innovative solution involves utilising banana leaves as an eco-friendlier material for take-away packaging.
EGIT is one of the initiatives developed by members of the Plastics Innovation Hub Vietnam– a CSIRO initiative supported by Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in partnership with Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology, Vietnam’s Administration of Seas and Islands, Vietnam’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and National Plastic Action Partnership UNDP Vietnam.
