Training health experts on augmented reality for telehealth applications

August 18th, 2022

Australia’s University of Tasmania is working with Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi to help health experts in urban centres virtually mentor rural practitioners in Vietnam through the use of Augmented Reality (AR).

AR is an immersive experience in which the real world is enhanced by computer-generated three-dimensional content. The wearable technology will allow local practitioners to call experts and share what they see so both parties can troubleshoot issues in real-time and handle critical cases together.

The medical staff at Bach Mai Hospital and in Yen Bai province have been receiving training on how to use the technology and AR goggles. Once the technology is deployed, rural patients in critical conditions can access central level medical experts without having to travel.
