Enhancing fruit industry with processing tech

November 8th, 2024

Vietnam’s Central Highlands region  welcomed Dr. Pablo Juliano, Food Processing and Supply Chain Group Leader from CSIRO, Australia’s National science agency. Facilitated by the Aus4Innovation program, Dr. Pablo Juliano shared CSIRO’s knowledge and capabilities in food processing and preservation for avocados, durians, and passion fruits, three key fruits produced in the region.

At the technical seminars, Vietnamese and Australian experts and businesses had vibrant exchanges on innovative food-processing and preservation solutions aimed at adding value along the supply chain, reducing food waste and promoting circular economy initiatives. In parallel, Dr. Pablo Juliano also held meetings with companies and SMEs to explore opportunities for collaboration in the food industry.

Dr. Pablo Juliano’s visit was part of the Aus4Innovation program’s response to the strong interest from the region to enhance the competitive advantage of their key commodities through smart processing technologies and solutions. With the Central Highlands rapidly expanding its fruit cultivation area and boosting regional export, such collaborative efforts can further its ongoing success.

Dr. Pablo Juliano visited farms and factories of companies of different scales to gain an insight into the food technology landscape in the Central Highlands.

Two technology introduction workshops were held in Gia Lai and Dak Lak provinces, targeting local SMEs, cooperatives, start-ups, fruit associations and researchers.

At B2B meetings with local producers and processers, technological challenges and appropriate responses at company scales were discussed.
