Citizen science: Eye on Water

AquaWatch is engaging local communities in the data collection process with the Eye on Water citizen science app.

Water colour is a very informative indicator of the ecological state of water quality. By asking the community to take good quality photos of their local waterways, Eye on Water can contribute to the validation of AquaWatch data. For more detailed data submissions, users can take some other measurements using basic instruments, for example temperature, pH and dissolved oxygen.

Eye on Water can be used anywhere across Australia and is a key channel for engaging local communities and students with AquaWatch. CSIRO has received positive feedback from Indigenous communities about using Eye on Water to support care for Country.
