WSCC Plans Sixth International Meeting for June 2010

Davis, California, USA (March 2010)- After successful meetings in Atlanta (June 2006), Santiago (March 2007), Cape Town (July 2008),
Melbourne (January 2009), and Mendoza (November 2009), the WSCC will meet next in Davis, California, USA. We will first attend the annual meeting of
the American Association of Wine Economists 26-28 June, and then continue on our own 29-30 June to meet with US importers and distributors.

WSCC Holds Fourth Meeting in Melbourne

Melbourne, Australia (January 2009) – Drs. Simon Dundstall and Leorey Marquez and their colleagues hosted the 4th international meeting of the Wine Supply Chain Council January 12-16.

We were delighted to be joined by some of the leaders in the Australian wine industry, including representatives from Orlando Wines, Oxford Landing, Yalumba, and Fosters.

This was also the occasion to welcome our newest member, the National University of Cuyo, from Mendoza, Argentina, represented by Professor
Raymundo Forradellas, who reported on supply chain activities there. It was also a pleasure to meet Professor David Ryan of the University of Auckland, New Zealand.

In addition to the program of talks, we enjoyed interesting visits to BAM Logistics (a wine distributor) and to Ospack (maker of temperature quilts).

Following tours of some key vineyards of the Yarra Valley, the final day was spent in beautiful, secluded Marysville, a small village adjacent to an old growth forest
and national park.

Argentina Now Represented on the Wine Supply Chain Council

Atlanta, GA, USA (November 2008) – The Wine Supply Chain Council welcomes its newest member, The National University
of Cuyo
(UNCuyo), which is located in Mendoza, the most important wine-producing region in Argentina. Our new colleagues are centered in the Industrial
Engineering Department and include Professors Ricardo Úngaro, Raymundo “Kike” Forradellas, and Martin Marchetta. Ricardo is head of the department,
Kike directs the Centro de Estudios y Aplicaciones Logisticas, and Martin will lead the instrumentation effort.

A delegation from the Wine Supply Chain Council visited UNCuyo 11-12 November 2008 to coordinate research efforts. The climax of the visit was a dinner hosted
by the governor of Mendoza. Other highlights included meetings with the Minister of Production, Technology, and Innovation, with the President of the National
Institute of Vitiviniculture, with managers of COVIAR and of Bodegas
de Argentina
, and with directors of logistics at some of the leading wineries.

UNCuyo is contributing immediately to our project to monitor temperatures of wine shipments. This is of particular interest because many shipments from Mendoza
travel to ports in Chile through the formidable Paso de los Libertadores where there can be risk of cold and delay due to altitude (3,175m). UNCuyo also has recruited
participation of one of the leading international sellers of wine over the internet, Wine of Mendoza, which will enable us to
track wine traveling as air cargo.
