JONATHAN: The SEA-MES On-vessel Automated Seabird Detector

SEA-MES is combining innovative science and technology to address issues facing marine ecosystems. We are capturing video images of birds and harnessing Edge AI to automatically detect and count seabirds at sea, in near real-time. With our satellite connectivity we can send daily reports back to Hobart to get a better picture of the bird fields that could be affected by human activities.

By storing the video data on Investigator we can compare the accuracy of the AI algorithm back in the lab.
