Solar-powered CC

To solarise the carbon capture industry and eliminate the power plant steam cycle, we propose a novel utilisation of solar heat generated by a customised solar collector field.

The solvent-based PCC process prevents steam bleeding from the power plant for the purpose of solvent regeneration. This arrangement, called ‘solar-powered’ PCC (SP-PCC), is expected to minimise interaction between the power plant and the PCC plant, and promote carbon capture at an almost zero carbon footprint.

This novel process can be adapted in other emission-intensive industries (for example steel, cement, and aluminium) that do not have steam production as part of their ordinary routines. It comprises a rigorous study for a ‘solar-stripper’ (So-St) network designed to promote SP-PCC technology over its ‘solar-assisted’ PCC (SA-PCC) counterpart.
