YieldProphet

Yield Prophet® is an on-line crop production model designed to present grain growers and consultants with real-time information about their crops, providing integrated production risk advice and monitoring decision support relevant to farm management. Operated as a web interface for the Agricultural Production Systems Simulator (APSIM), Yield Prophet generates crop simulations and reports to assist in decision making. By matching crop inputs with potential yield in a given season, Yield Prophet subscribers may avoid over- or under-investing in their crop.

The simulations provide a framework for growers and advisors to:

  • forecast yield
  • manage climate and soil water risk
  • make informed decisions about nitrogen and irrigation applications
  • match inputs with the yield potential of their crop
  • assess the effect of changed sowing dates or varieties
  • assess the possible effects of climate change.

YieldProphet Lite

Yield Prophet Lite is a free tool that lets you estimate potential yield values for your crop given different rainfall amounts and fertiliser application rates. It also gives the rainfall likelihood for the remainder of the growing season. This is a simpler version of YieldProphet, that provide general predictions rather than season or site specific predictions.

CropARM

YFarmers in all regions of Australia endure widely varying rainfall conditions whilst needing to make critical management decisions prior to every cropping season. Each input option comes with a possible range of effects on outputs (especially yield) and can have interactions with other inputs.

CropARM is a simple software tool that facilitates simulation-aided discussion of growers’ exposure to risk when comparing different management options. The simulations utilise the 115-year climate record to predict the year-to-year variability in outcomes. The effect of different levels of inputs can be compared side-by-side. The management factors that can be examined include:

  • Nitrogen fertiliser rate (sow and in-crop)
  • Crop type
  • Effect of stored soil water at planting
  • Sowing date
  • Maturity length
  • Plant population
  • Row configuration
  • Effect of soil nitrogen content
