Background

A huge variety of tools, calculators, and information products have been developed over the years with the aim of informing better grower and advisor decision making. However, it is often difficult to know what tools are available, what decisions they can help with, and their availability or usability for a particular situation. In RiskWi$e we are trying to encourage the use of tools and methods for better decision making in the face of risk or uncertainty. Many, but not all, of these decision support tools address risk or variability in their considerations.

It is really difficult to have awareness and knowledge of the range of tools available, hence we have recognised the need to develop a list of the tools available. We then audited the type of decisions they can help with and their ability to inform or deal with risk or uncertainty.

What is it?

A collation of the various farm management decision support tools available to Australian grain farmers including an evaluation of the tools’ capability and usefulness for risk management.

The current database of tools can be found here.

We will continue to update and refine this database. The goal is to also develop a decision tree that can help select the best tool for the job.
