Quarter 3, 2023
There’s been a lot of activity in the RiskWi$e project to date from Grower Groups (GG), Action Research Groups (ARG) to the National Project Lead (NPL). With approximately 44 field and trial activities across Australia.
With over 100 media, events and engagement activities across the project there’s been great enthusiasm to date, and broad reach to a range of stakeholders.
See a snapshot of some of the activity:
South Australia
The Western SA ARG held their second “Theme Working Group” (TWG) meeting on 18 September at Cummins, in conjunction with the EP ARG project steering committee members and Rick Llewellyn (CSIRO).
The TWG is made up of advisers and researchers, to provide advice to the direction and delivery of the key project themes and to build their capacity in using a range of risk management tools and processes, and in turn provide ongoing support to the discussion groups. They will also work closely with a range of experts who will support the project delivery.
Western Australia
There was plenty of interest in the RiskWi$e trial at the Stirlings2Coast field day.
The trial is looking at NUE of rotations with N applied at Nil (baseline), 5 & 8 decile yield. Risky or rewarding? Fully phased (every crop every year!) and full N balance.
Victoria
Birchip Cropping Group (BCG) held a farm advisory meeting in August, where risk was a key focus.
This group forms an important part of the RiskWi$e participatory action research (PAR).
New South Wales
FarmLink Research held an Open Day in September.
There was plenty of interest and discussions around the RiskWi$e nitrogen strategies.
AMPS Agribusiness held a RiskWi$e workshop in October.
They discussed difficult, risky decisions made in the farming business and how to tackle them.
Queensland
Some members from the Queensland ARG met at Goondiwindi on the 24 August to discuss and identify farming systems issues for RiskWi$e.
