CSIRO has developed a way to give communities an opportunity to express their views and experiences into companies that operate alongside them. Our approach enables a dynamic interaction between company and community that aims to increase understanding on all sides, build trust, and strengthen relationships. It builds upon knowledge gained from Australian and global communities through thousands of CSIRO research hours over the past decade.
Port Waratah has partnered with CSIRO for a two-year project to apply the CSIRO approach. The project is called Local Voices. Local Voices will provide the communities neighbouring Port Waratah’s operations a way to express their views and experiences directly into the company, and help the company engage with the issues that matter most to these communities.
CSIRO conducted a detailed ‘Local Voices’ Community Survey on behalf of Port Waratah throughout August – September 2018. We asked questions about a range of issues relating to life in and around Newcastle, and about the relationship with Port Waratah. Pulse Survey #1 was then undertaken in April 2019, Pulse Survey #2 in September 2019 and most recently, Pulse #3 in March 2020. Results for all surveys are now available. Learn more
