Partnering with SPC

July 29th, 2024

Climate and nutrition are major challenges in the agrifood systems of Pacific Island countries and territories. These complex challenges require more than just a technical solution. They require a system response that brings together research, policy, non-government, private sector and other development actors engaged in the agrifood systems of the different countries and the region.

We are partnering with the Pacific Community (SPC) to co-design their Food Systems flagship with member countries in the Pacific. A Melanesia sub-regional food system workshop was held in in Vanuatu in October 2024 and the Polynesia sub-regional food system workshop was held in Tonga in September 2024. These workshops brought together SPC members form government, private sector and civil society to discuss what a food systems is and what it means for stakeholders. Participants discussed areas of collaboration in food systems at the country and sub regional level and how to continue to advocate and socialise food systems thinking.

We are also exploring opportunities to combine research capabilities of SPC and CSIRO to tackle the nutrition challenge in Pacific Island Countries and Territories to enhance the resilience of food systems in the face of NCDs and climate change.
