A tool for navigating the impacts of climate on food systems in Samoa

July 29th, 2024

The Agri-food Systems Climate Change Explorer (ASCE) has been developed to help Samoa navigate the impacts of climate change on its agrifood system.

ASCE integrates and maps out current and projected climate data with relevant agricultural and socio-economic indicators to support scenario planning and decision making.

The user-friendly digital tool has been developed in partnership with the Samoan Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries, the Pacific Community (SPC), Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) and the Resilience Initiative for Food and Agriculture (RIFA). It has been collaboratively designed with stakeholders across the Samoan government, universities, and industry.

A minimum viable product was endorsed at the Pacific Heads of Agriculture and Food (PHOAFs)  meeting in May 2024 and there was interest from other countries.  A refined product will be presented to the  PHOAFs meeting in 2025.
