NxtOil technology is already deployed in tobacco, a high biomass species which is already used for biofuel and industrial applications around the world. NxtOil’s version 2 plants grow well and accumulate high levels of oil.

A normal tobacco plant next to a NxtOil plant, with a scale showing the higher oil content of the NxtOil plant.

These plants were grown alongside each other. The colours represent
the amount of oil in each leaf – both plants are actually green!

We are testing these plants in the field in the US and are exploring growth opportunities in tobacco growing regions around the world. Many farmers in tobacco growing regions are searching for alternative uses for their crop.

What about Version 3?

We are testing the technology in a range of C4 grass species including sorghum and Miscanthus. Contact us to learn more.
