Outcomes/Impacts
Impact Statement:
The National Soil Monitoring Project will collect strategic, nationally consistent soil data required to provide a baseline assessment of the current state, trend, and health of Australia’s soil assets. The data and developed information products and assessments will be used to inform the impact of land management on the condition of Australia’s soils. The data and information products will be used to inform future policy, the National Soil Strategy, and soil-related sustainable productive outcomes.
Climate Smart Sustainable Agriculture Project Outcomes:
- An increased understanding of the current state and trend of Australia’s soil assets
- Identification of key threats to soil and associated drivers of change
- National soil health data to support strategic decisions for soil related sustainable productive agriculture
- Generate interest within farming communities to monitor and manage soils more proactively
- An understanding of the relationship between climate, land management practices and soil trends
- Sustainable productive soil practices identified by the project to be recognised and promoted
- An understanding of agriculture productive and sustainable potential across major soil landscape zones
Impacts of more productive, healthy and resilient soils:
Economic
- Increased food and fibre agricultural production
- Stable basis for landscaping and infrastructure (including urban areas)
Environmental
- Delivery of ecosystem services critical for environmental health’
- Climate regulation via increased soil carbon
- Water filtration
- Improved resilience to natural disasters
Social
- Improved human health
- Ongoing Indigenous traditions and deep connection with Country
