The Project

CSIRO is working in partnership with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) to design and deliver the National Soil Monitoring Program (The Project).

The Project will sample approximately 3,000 sites across Australia, with a strong focus on major agricultural zones across a 3-year period. Activities will include soil sampling, laboratory analysis, data processing, and archiving of collected soil specimens.

The Project will sample approximately 3,000 sites across Australia, with a strong focus on major agricultural zones across a 3-year period.

The intent is that these sites are revisited periodically at multiple times with soil samples collected for the same testing, thereby allowing trends to be established.

The data collected by the Project will be made publicly accessible via ANSIS with the soil samples to be held in the CSIRO Australian National Soil Archive for future research.
