What can NEAC do for you?
Researchers and Innovators
Problem
Unintentional data castles are slowing innovation and preventing new entrants. Many current trials tend to involve small samples of early adopters and produce stand-alone data sets which are not accessible to others. For smaller innovators and research organisations, the costs and delays of obtaining real end-user data are prohibitive.
Our solution
The NEAC addresses these challenges by streamlining the collection process, reducing costs, and expediting access to the valuable end-user. The ongoing nature of NEAC facilitates the curation of a comprehensive repository containing diverse end-user data, including consumption patterns, demographic variations, and end user experiences.
Result
Researchers and innovators will be able to run research trials, test a product or service in a whole of system context and get data from real homes and real people.
Investors, Planners and Approvers
Problem
Investors, planners and approvers face a challenge in accessing locally relevant data at scale to make informed investment decisions. They require compelling evidence that innovations can perform effectively and meet market demand at scale, ensuring that investments are justified. Moreover, they seek assurance that the technology is truly world-leading, offering a significant advantage over existing solutions.
Our solution
NEAC will provide a standardised ‘plug test’ service, offering a secure environment to assess innovation alongside both people and technology. Investors, planners and approvers will be able to evaluate usability, real-world usage patterns, and adoption rates within the Living Lab. Additionally, they will be able to conduct grid simulations and infrastructure integration testing through the Data Nexus.
Result
Investors, planners and approvers will be able to conduct due diligence with trusted data and visualise many projects and their inter-relationships.
Industry, Regulators, and Consultants
Problem
Limited public knowledge of the energy system coupled with low trust in organisations poses challenges for effective engagement with end-users by businesses.
Our solution
CSIRO enjoys a high level of trust in the community and our NEAC Living Lab will serve as a platform for collecting locally relevant data and informing planning processes.
Result
Industry, regulators and consultants will be able to access scenario modelling and analysis and energy transformation plans, source data via APIs, and visualise complex multi-energy data.
Policy Makers and Public Advocates
Problem
There is a growing energy divide; early adopters are super engaged but typical end-users are not, and their behaviours and outcomes are very different.
Our solution
CSIRO enjoys a high level of trust in the community and NEAC will prioritise engaging with a broader audience to enhance inclusivity in data gathering. Our Living Lab will serve as a platform for collecting locally relevant data and informing planning processes. Trials will be conducted with a diverse range of households, incorporating varying levels of smart technology. Each new trial will serve as an opportunity to progressively enhance representation and diversify contextual perspectives. Through continuous engagement and expansion of participant demographics, we aim to bridge existing gaps in inclusivity and insight.
Result
Policy makers and public advocates will be able to model policy scenarios for decarbonisation, resilience and equity, and interrogate other modelling and claims.
