Spatial Crystallography

Knowledge of the crystal structure of minerals and materials is important for understanding a wide range of problems, from processing to final material properties. To complement the bulk crystallographic techniques available at CSIRO, the Microbeam Laboratory is able to map crystallography on samples down to length scales of 1 micron.

We have Electron Backscattered Diffraction (EBSD) systems installed on our JEOL 7800F SEM and FEI Quanta 400 ESEM. In addition, there are cases where crystal structure information can be gain from soft x-ray emission spectra (SXES). We have SXES systems installed on our JEOL 8530F microprobe and JEOL 7800F SEM.
