Laser assisted additive deposition

In applications that require surface characteristics such as high hardness and/or corrosion resistance, it is possible to coat surfaces with additively deposited engineered layers that can be functionally graded.

Since such coating may be selectively applied according to requirements, it is possible to use materials that may be expensive but give the most desired performance.

For example, tools used in high abrasive environments like mining would benefit from case hardening conferred through additive deposition.

We can also explore the possibility of using mobile laser units to repair worn components in-situ in industries where downtime significantly affects production targets, for example continuous flow production of coal.

Laser heat treatment

The laser beam can be used as the heat source for the surface heat treatment of some metals. We have two high powered laser systems that can be employed to explore the possibility of, for example, increasing the case hardness of materials used in abrasive environments.

Laser assisted case hardening differs from the traditional methods in that it can be selectively applied to local spots as well as  can be functionally graded according to requirements.
