SQID Taskforce Workshop: A Day of Collaboration and Progress
In February, in Sydney, Justine Barrett recently attended the Stormwater Quality Improvement Device (SQID) Taskforce workshop, advancing efforts to improve SQID approval and management. Committee members from across Australia and New Zealand participated, including representatives from Brisbane, Tasmania, and beyond. Key guests, Cath Thrupp (President of Stormwater Australia) and Bryan Ward (Executive Officer), provided valuable updates on the SQIDEP program, which guided the workshop’s discussions.
A major outcome was the adoption of the shared purpose: “Help SQIDs be better SQIDS,” emphasizing the commitment to enhancing both the devices and the processes around them. Following presentations, the taskforce split into two subcommittees, each focused on developing project plans and tackling challenges in the SQID landscape. These subcommittees will continue refining their strategies in the coming weeks.
The workshop also brought together diverse stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, councils, product providers, consultants, and maintenance providers, creating a collaborative environment that prioritizes industry-wide interests. This inclusive approach aims to lead to more effective and comprehensive solutions. Once the subcommittees finalize their findings, they will share them with the broader industry to maintain transparency and engagement. The SQID Taskforce is optimistic about the progress made and looks forward to ongoing improvements.
