Sixth Meeting of the Working Group on Marine Litter (WGML)
Denise was in Siem Reap, Cambodia, for a week at the end of October! Denise spent the first two days of the week engaged in discussions as part of the Sixth Meeting of the Working Group on Marine Litter (WGML) of the Coordinating Body on the Seas of East Asia (COBSEA). It was inspiring to hear from representatives of the nine COBSEA member countries as we have engaged in discussions that will support countries in the global plastics treaty development process.
Denise had the opportunity to share our recent efforts in supporting various countries to develop marine litter programs, and she had the honour of presenting the first regional assessment based on our collaborative work with partners in Cambodia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.
This meeting was taking place in parallel to the Second Meeting of the Working Group on Marine and Coastal Ecosystems (WGMCE), providing a wonderful opportunity for discussions with these working group members at tea breaks and meals throughout the week.
It was also heartening to hear so many positive comments about the excellent training provided by Environment’s Kathy Willis, Steph Brodie, and Mary Mackay last month in Bangkok—great job, folks!
