SEA of Solutions Conference

October 9th, 2024

Marine debris researchers participated to the SEA of Solutions conference that took place in Bangkok (18-20th September 2024) at the United Nations Conference Centre.

The conference, themed “Delivering Actions to End Plastic Pollution,” is all about sparking tangible changes across sectors, governments, and industries to address one of the planet’s most pressing environmental issues—plastic pollution. Throughout the day, speakers discussed their efforts in building circular economies, championing life cycle sustainability, and scaling innovative business models. These ideas deeply resonate with CSIRO’s mission to turn cutting-edge science into solutions that help industries reduce their environmental footprint and build resilience against future challenges.

The highlight of the second day came when Kathy took the stage for her invited presentation on “Measuring Marine Litter as a Way to Design and Implement Actions that Work”.

Kathy’s message was clear: “This problem is too big for any one entity. We must work together across borders and sectors, using data-driven approaches to create lasting solutions”. Her co-panelists, from the United Nations, World Bank, and Vietnam’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, echoed this sentiment, adding weight to CSIRO’s mission of fostering collective, science-driven solutions for sustainable development.
