Litter Monitoring Trials
As part of the National Plastics Project for the federal Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment, and Water, we are conducting litter monitoring trials in sites across Australia. We have cameras set up on bridges overlooking waterways that take images during daylight hours. The images are then fed through an image recognition model that determines how the number and type of litter items have moved through the waterway. We are also installing Matter sensors in gross pollutant traps to measure litter levels.
