Litter monitoring training in Thailand
Regional Training of Trainers on Monitoring and Assessment of Marine Plastic Litter and Microplastics
In July 2022, Denise, TJ, Lauren and Justine travelled to Phuket, Thailand to conduct training with participants from five countries (Cambodia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam). We taught participants to conduct litter surveys to establish/design their own programme to monitor and assess the distribution and abundance of plastic litter to support national monitoring programmes in their home countries.
This training occurred as part of a collaboration with the United Nations COBSEA programme. Click here for more details.
The course participants were very enthusiastic and motivated to learn. Part of the course included conducting coastal, inland, river and trawl surveys on the island of Phuket and beyond, some of which happened in monsoonal rains!
It was wonderful to meet all of the fantastic participants and to contribute to improved pollution monitoring in Southeast Asia.
