Restoration for fisheries enhancement and recovery

Coastal habitats provide food and shelter to juvenile fish and crustaceans, and/or by exporting nutrient supplies that can sustain food webs in surrounding ecosystems. These effects have been hypothesized to result in fisheries benefits from these habitats, hence many restoration strategies explicitly include benefits to fisheries in their aims. However, empirical evidence of the effects of restoration on fish production and how it affects fisheries stocks remains elusive.

At CSIRO, we are expanding understanding of the role of restoration on the enhancement of fish production to inform restoration practice, the development of environmental accounts and the management of fisheries.
