Dr Mary Mackay

Mary is a post doc joining the IUU fishing group with CSIRO Oceans and Atmosphere, based in Hobart, Tasmania. Her research will explore
the human behaviour of illegal fishing. This research will contribute to better understanding of aspects of non-compliance and explore tools to improve reporting and encourage compliant behaviour as well as explore the influence of bias and community buy-in within fisheries management. Mary’s background is interdisciplinary, she has recently finished her PhD in Economics at the Tasmanian School of Business and Economics and the Centre for Marine Socioecology at the University of Tasmania. Her thesis explored the role of behavioural incentives on compliance behaviour in recreational fisheries management and explored management preferences of fishers. Prior to this she did her MSc. in Marine Systems and Policies at the University of Edinburgh and her BSc. in environmental biology and geography at the University of St Andrews.
