Optimising your relationship with your supervisors

October 16 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am AEST

Want to make the most of your supervisory relationships? Want to learn the best tips and tricks in terms of managing expectations and outcomes, communication and feedback?

Managing supervisors is a tricky task for any PhD student but having three sets of supervisors from different organisations brings unique challenges. Each set of supervisors comes from a different organisational culture and has different objectives. This workshop is suitable for PhD students at any stage in their candidature. It provides the tools and strategies to successfully manage supervisory relationships and covers:

  • Learn about expectation-setting to set up your goals and plan the candidature
  • Understand the responsibilities of students and supervisors
  • Recognise how the supervisory relationship changes over time during the candidature
  • Learn strategies for communication and receiving feedback
  • Understand the importance of mental well-being and maintenance during the PhD

Delivered by Dr Bronwyn Robson who is a Mental Health First Aid instructor with extensive experience as a counsellor in the university sector.
