This project develops advanced multimodal sensing techniques for next-generation aerial robots to improve bushfire mitigation and pest management. The expected outcome is a robotic sensing prototype for real-time monitoring. This technology will deliver customer, national, industry, and public benefits through enhanced safety, sustainability, cost-efficiency, and support for Indigenous manufacturing.

Ideal student skillset | Essential skills At least one of the following degrees: Bachelor (Honours Class 1 or 2), Master of Research, or Master of Philosophy in a relevant field such as Robotics, Mechatronics, or Machine Learning. Strong programming expertise in C, C++, Python, or similar, and experience with the Robot Operating System (ROS). Prior experience in robotics, machine learning, and research is beneficial. Desirable skills Knowledge of mechatronics design, sensor fusion, and robot vision. Hands-on experience with robotic platforms. Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills. |
