Host-directed antivirals for pandemic preparedness

In this project, Dr Aaron Brice will develop novel therapies targeting pathogen host species.

Rapid response to the emergence of a novel pandemic virus is essential to minimize loss of life and economic impact. However, development of vaccines and antivirals cannot begin without prior knowledge of the virus of concern. To overcome this, the aim of this project is to develop novel therapies that instead target the host to treat infection. Providing ‘ready-to-go’ therapeutics to prepare for the next pandemic.

Utilizing ACDP’s strengths in high-containment infectious disease research and cutting-edge technologies we aim to identify host factors essential to virus replication and their ability to cause disease. We will then evaluate the potential of these factors for the development of novel antiviral therapeutics.
