Biography

Punjehl Crane is a Research Project Officer at CSIRO with the Environmental Tracers team. Throughout his research career he has worked in areas including groundwater hydrology, development and maintenance of field and lab equipment, and design, modification and repair of lab and field equipment. He has a strong record of instrument and methods development, including field and laboratory-based technologies.

Punjehl has 7 years of experience with hydrogeological field trips featuring several projects across northern Australia, Norfolk Island and the Great Artesian Basin. He has sampled dozens of shallow and deep wells for environmental tracer analysis, including for noble gases and general hydrochemistry. His technological developments have included designing through to first usage of high vacuum rock crushing apparatus and techniques for fluid inclusion studies.

Since 2018 he has performed much of the maintenance and sample processing for routine operations of the Noble Gas Isotope Hydrology Facility in Adelaide and its high-resolution mass spectrometer. In previous positions he has worked in the automotive sector repairing refurbishing and fabrication of various kinds of cars and other machinery. He has excellent trouble shooting skills with all kinds of equipment and machinery, and lots of experience working in remote areas and adverse conditions.
