Katharina Waha: Research Scientist

Katharina is a Research Scientist with CSIRO Agriculture and Food in Australia. As a geographer, she is interested in the interactions between the natural environment and human societies on different geographic scales with a special focus on agricultural ecosystems.

Katharina specialises in cropping systems modelling, spatial data analysis and climate change impact and adaptation research. Before joining CSIRO, she worked at Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) in Germany, contributing to the development of a global dynamic vegetation and water balance model.

Currently, Katharina is investigating the diversification potential for farming systems in developing countries. For this she is mapping multiple cropping and mixed crop-livestock systems in the Tropics and Subtropics using 35,000+ household surveys, a global crop calendar and global land use and agricultural data.
