Emily Jateff is the curator of ocean science and technology at the Australian National Maritime Museum. She is aboard the RV Investigator due to her shipwreck expertise and to hear science and maritime stories she can share at the museum. Emily is a vibrant and very personable scientist who is passionate about developing new strategies to engage people with marine science. Trained in anthropology and marine archaeology Emily has had a colourful professional career. In fact, she dived to 4000m in a submersible in the North Atlantic to explore the Titanic wreck. She talks about the museum as the keeper of history and emphasises the importance of archiving current marine investigation to understand and protect the marine environment. She enjoys field work and says you need to be willing to give things a go and be genuinely interested in marine science to be successful. “This is the perfect job for someone who likes to get their hands on and mind wrapped around what’s happening now in the ocean world.”
