IN2019_T03: A moving reference for the Australian operational radar network
24 December 2019 – 2 January 2020
Travelling from Darwin to Fremantle, the Investigator’s weather radar will be used as a reference for the Australian radar network. Other projects will look at microplastics in the food chain and the distribution and abundance of seabirds.
Researcher profile: Dr George Cresswell
Meet Dr George Creswell who is helping interpret the current water property information of the samples taken when isolating microplastics at sea.
Day 8: Seabird profiles
One of the most prolific species documented on this trip has been the shearwater.
Meet the Chief Engineer
I caught up with the Chief Engineer, Ben Newman to talk all things engineering and physics.
Day 4: Friend or Foe? The Hitch Hikers
While on board I helped researcher Elise Tuuri collect bacteria samples.
Day 3: Plankton goop is a thing!
We hear about it; we learn about it in biology lessons, but do we know what plankton does and how it is monitored – not really.
Researcher profile: Storm Chaser
Meet Dr Joshua Soderholm, Research Scientist from the Bureau of Meteorology.
