Adaptation in the Coorong
CSIRO is helping partners adapt to the potentially transformational impacts of climate change on the iconic Coorong wetlands, South Australia.
Working with communities, managers, policymakers and researchers, as part of the Healthy Coorong, Healthy Basin initiative, CSIRO is conducting a series of assessments and collaborative adaptation pathways analyses, leading to the development of a long-term adaptation strategy for the Coorong.
The project is providing knowledge and building capacity to plan near-term actions in a way that supports long-term adaptation outcomes. As well as the biophysical aspects of change, it is addressing the social, cultural and institutional challenges to making effective decisions about long term, significant but uncertain changes in the Coorong system that will affect the values of multiple stakeholders.
